Written by Aadarsh Gupta, Kuno Cheetah Jungle Safari · Last updated: September 2026 · Permit rules checked against MP Forest Department / MPOnline

To book a Kuno National Park safari you need a Forest Department permit for a specific date, gate and session (morning or evening), plus a gypsy and guide. Permits are released on the MPOnline schedule and sell out in peak season. Share your dates and group size and our Kuno team books permit, vehicle, guide and stay for you.

Permits

Kuno safari permit: documents and rules

Advance bookings open on the Forest Department / MPOnline schedule for each season. Check the current calendar on the official portal.

  • Government-issued ID proof (name, age, nationality, sex).

  • Identity card number of each visitor (Aadhar, voter ID, PAN, driving license, passport).

  • International tourists must submit passport details.

  • Permit includes charges for permit, vehicle, and guide. No payment at the gate.

  • Entry permit is for individuals, valid for the specified date and time, and cannot be transferred.

  • Limited vehicles are allowed — book up to 120 days in advance when possible.

  • If booking shows 'W' (waiting), it is confirmed only when the waiting list clears. If not cleared 5 days before your date, the permit is cancelled and amount refunded.

Vehicle

Private gypsy or shared safari?

Private gypsy: you book the whole open jeep for your group of up to 6. You choose the pace, stop as long as you like at a sighting, and share the vehicle with no one. Photographers and families usually prefer this.

Shared safari: where the Forest Department offers seat-wise booking for the season, you pay per seat and share the gypsy with other visitors. It costs less for solo travellers and couples, but you have less say over stops.

A private gypsy costs more in total but often works out similar per person for a full group of 5–6. Tell us your group size and we will compare both.

Gates

Which safari gate should you book?

Kuno has 3 safari gates. Distances are from Sesaipura, the main visitor base. No gate can promise a cheetah. Compare all three on the Kuno safari gates page.

GateLandscapeBest for
Tiktoli GateVaried: hills, grasslands, river areas and water bodiesFirst-time visitors and anyone wanting a straightforward, well-supported first safari
Ahera GateMore open — grasslands, good wildlife potentialVisitors who want open-grassland terrain, different from the Tiktoli side
Peepalbawdi GateVery open scrub, on a different side of the parkVisitors who already know Kuno, or are travelling with an experienced guide

Planning

How many safaris should you book?

1 safari

A taste of Kuno’s landscape and wildlife. Good if you are passing through.

2–3 safaris

The usual first trip. Try both a morning and an evening, and perhaps two gates.

4+ safaris

For serious wildlife watchers, birders and photographers.

More drives mean more chances, not a guaranteed sighting.

Price

Kuno safari price

Your cost depends on the Forest Department permit fee (which differs for Indian and foreign nationals), whether you book a private gypsy or a shared seat, and how many safaris you take.

Stay, meals and transfers are added on top, and vary with the season and the level of comfort you choose.

Weekends, holidays and October to March fill fastest, so booking early gives you the most choice. See Kuno safari price.

Stay and transfers

Safari + stay + transfer

Most visitors stay around Sesaipura, about 18 km from Tiktoli Gate. We book stays from simple rooms to resorts, timed to your safari sessions so you are at the gate early.

The nearest airport is Gwalior and the nearest railway station is Shivpuri. We arrange private transfers from both, and from Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur and Delhi.
