Kuno Wildlife

Caracal

A small, tufted-eared cat you should not count on seeing.

The caracal is a slim, long-legged wild cat with black ear tufts, built for dry scrub and open country. In India it is scarce and very hard to find.

It is nocturnal and secretive, so a sighting on a normal safari should be treated as luck, not a target. Camera-trap records are how most of what we know about it is learned.

If you're hoping for a rare sighting, tell us and we'll advise honestly on what is realistic, rather than promise something the forest may not deliver.
