Kuno Wildlife

Indian Wolf

A grassland specialist sharing ground with the cheetah.

The Indian wolf is a lean, pale animal of open country. In Kuno it is associated with the drier grassland and scrub rather than dense forest.

Wolves are wary and often move in small family groups. Sightings are uncommon and usually brief, so early-morning drives through open terrain give the best chance.

Wolves, hyenas and cheetahs share the same open landscape and much of the same prey, which is part of what makes Kuno a useful place to study how India's grassland carnivores coexist.
